January 2027 tumble dryer energy standards
Stricter energy-efficiency requirements apply from 19 January 2027 to household tumble dryers placed on the market or put into service in Great Britain. Commercial dryers require a separate scope check.
The changes phase out inefficient household vented and conventional condenser technologies. They do not mean every commercial vented or condenser dryer is banned: dryers covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 are excluded.
A stacked washer and separate dryer must be assessed by the dryer component. An integrated household washer-dryer is excluded from these tumble dryer regulations.
The date concerns placing products on the market or putting them into service. Existing stock needs its supply history checked before any sales restriction is assumed.
